The 2010 race was held on Sunday 3rd October at Cambridge University's Athletics Track and saw runners representing some of the biggest businesses in the Cambridge area compete for their place in the alternative business listing the “On-Footse” Top 100 index.
For the first time this year separate races were run for men and women. After an appeal to attract more female competitors two all-women heats were held in addition to three for the men. The top runners from the heats went through to compete in the women's and men's finals at the end of the morning.
In the women's races the overall winner was Rebecca O'Rourke from Cambridge University Press with a winning time in the women's final of 6min 18s. Second place went to Junko Sakurai of CSR with a time of 6min 44s and coming in third was Minnie Eve from EEDA with a time of 7min 14s.
The men's final was a tightly fought battle with just eleven seconds separating the top four competitors. The ultimate winner was Mazeyar Firouzi of CSR with a time of 5min 4s. Coming in just one second behind was Ashley Allen of M G Training with a time of 5min 5s. Taking third place was Chris Miller of Cambridge University Press with a time of 5min 14s.
This year additional prizes were awarded to the runners who put in the fastest times relative to a standard time derived by applying an aged-based handicap. The two fastest handicap-corrected women mirrored the main results in being awarded to Rebecca O'Rourke of Cambridge University Press and Junko Sakurai of CSR. The fastest handicap-corrected man was Giulio Cinque of Giulio Ltd followed by Vincent Bryant of PI Consulting.
As well as the fantastic times recorded by the winning athletes, competitors across the field put in a tremendous effort and achieved some great personal results and had some good fun at the same time.
